MUMBAI:Residents of Amboli will no longer have to go to Oshiwara to lodge a policecomplaint. The construction of the new Amboli police station at Patel Estate iscomplete and it is expected to start operations in a week.
Seniorinspector of Amboli police, Kailash Ghamande, said he was supervising theconstruction work. "The furnishing of the station house and officers' room isalmost done and we will be shifting there in a week. The new police station islocated opposite Pushtikar Society at Patel Estate near Jogeshwari railwaystation on the west,'' he said.
The new police station will serve apopulation of 4 lakh and the outposts will be situated at Dadasaheb GaikwadHall, Malcolm Baug and on Veera Desai Road. About 60% the original area ofOshiwara police station is now under Amboli jurisdiction.
Ambolipolice station formally started working last October but personnel have beenoperating from a temporary structure and two rooms at Oshiwara police station asthe department was looking for a land for the new policestation.
However, the new police station still has problems; it hasonly one van and two SUVs to patrol the area. Four inspectors, nine assistantinspectors and sub-inspectors and 74 constables have been posted atAmboli.
